What to see in eastern Sicily, starting from Augusta
Casa G&G is in Augusta, roughly halfway along the east coast of Sicily: the location that lets you see everything without changing accommodation every night. Syracuse and Ortigia are half an hour away, Catania Airport 35 minutes, and Catania, Noto, Mount Etna and Taormina are day trips. Here is what to see, starting right from your doorstep.

Syracuse and Ortigia
Syracuse is just half an hour away: the Neapolis Archaeological Park with the Greek Theatre and the Ear of Dionysius, and the island of Ortigia with its cathedral, the Fountain of Arethusa and baroque alleys. One of the most beautiful cities in Sicily, worth staying until evening.

Day trips: Catania, Etna, Noto and Taormina
Catania and its airport are 35–40 minutes away, very handy for arriving and departing too. Mount Etna and Taormina are about an hour away; further south lie Noto, the capital of Sicilian baroque, and the Vendicari Nature Reserve, around fifty minutes away. Perfect day trips, leaving your luggage in Augusta.

Augusta: the historic centre and the sea
The island of Augusta's historic centre is best explored on foot: the Porta Spagnola gate, the public gardens, squares full of cafés and restaurants, and the seafront overlooking Porto Xifonio, 200 metres from the house. The nearest beach is a 3-minute walk away - perfect for a quick swim before dinner.

Brucoli and its beaches
8 km away, Brucoli is a small fishing village with an Aragonese castle overlooking the canal and some of the most beautiful beaches and coves in the area. In summer it is ideal for a day by the sea; in the evening, for a granita or an aperitivo by the little harbour.
